PhotographsWe'll be adding photos of the people and events that make SUMC the special place it is. Check back soon! ![]() 8th Annual Pig RoastAugust 20th was the date of the 8th annual Methodist Church Pig Roast. This event brought lots of fun and many memories to our church and community. The combined effort of all our members brought the church membership together in many ways aside from the fund raising event. “Cowboy Jim Garling” Songwriter & Guitarist from Guthrie Oklahoma provided the entertainment this year. He sang songs from the old west which included a variety of traditional tunes that we all enjoyed. Jim was great and was really appriciated!

View Album ![]() ChurchMethodism arrived in the Salida area in 1863 under the direction of itinerant ministers, notable among whom was 'Father' John L. Dyer. It was not until 1883 that an organized congregation under the leadership of R.H. McDade came into being. These first meetings were held in the Presbyterian Church, but it soon became apparent there was a need for a building of their own. Land formerly belonging to Governor A.C. Hunt was purchased from Millie C. Ohmertz for $1.00. During the ministry of F.H. Essert, the beautiful brick building we have today was completed. Its dedication was held in 1900 shortly before Annual Conference convened in Salida. View Album ![]() Kids' Music CampThere was a GREAT turnout for the Kids’ Music & Drama Camp held in our church from July 26th through July 30th. 15 kids plus 3 teen helpers came and participated in this wonderful week of fun and learning. They performed on Friday evening, July 30, to show the congregation, families, friends and neighbors what they learned. None of this would have happened without the leadership of Linda Taylor and Margaret Gillikin who put in many, many hours of preparation and leadership of the camp for the whole week. GREAT JOB, Linda & Margaret! The Camp was blessed to have special assistance from Jacque Cotte-Kirtley who brought her toys for us to play with; Steven Taylor – who appeared as “Patrick” (from the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon); Amy Ellzey who led animal dancing; Jane Whitner & Paula Schirmer who taught African drumming; Ginny Biglow who helped the kids relax and calm down at lunch time; Bob Campbell who provided microphones; and also our 3 teen helpers who helped every moment go smoothly from rehearsals to performance – Dakota Taylor, Mackinzi Taylor and Sarah Wilson. We also want to thank all of you who provided snacks for the kids this year (especially how you stepped up at the last minute to sign up – WOW!): Sandy Gordon, Cynthia Hearn, Virginia Imig, Pat Miller, Judy Naviaux, Flora Parsons, Tommie Regan, Jody West and Karen Yerkey. This was a great ministry event for our church. Thanks again, everybody! View Album ![]() New Garden AreaNew garden area with a seating bench on the West side of the church. View Album |
