HABITAT FOR HUMANITY/THRIVENT FINANCIAL…… On Sunday, September 19, at 12:30 p.m., there will be a lunch presentation at the Lutheran church here in Salida about Thrivent Financial. This is a faith-based membership organization that provides a full array of financial services, from insurance to banking to annuities, etc. While they provide professional financial services like any other company of this type, there is one thing that sets them apart. Their affiliation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America means that “profits” are used to fund mission and community service programs that make a difference in the areas where their members live. One of the most significant efforts that Thrivent sponsors is a partnership with Habitat for Humanity that provides a significant percentage of funding to build a house. Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity and the local chapter of Thrivent Financial anticipate partnering together on a Thrivent Build house in 2011. We are offering this information session to introduce you to an organization that we believe might provide a valuable service to you personally, and which may be of significant service to our community. Habitat for Humanity would love to have at least one person from every congregation in Salida attend this presentation, but all are welcome! Please RSVP to Lois at 221-1005. Habitat for Humanity broke ground to build a duplex on the Starbuck Addition in Salida on Highway 50 for two families.
All the workers are volunteers and work very hard every Saturday.
Also our church has been asked to furnish lunches for the volunteers, and our next date to do this is Saturday, October 9th. There is a (yellow) sign-up sheet in Century Hall for help preparing and delivering these meals. We'll be making and serving sandwiches, salads, & chips to 25 workers (plus our servers). Drinks are already provided and a site host is available all Saturdays. If you can help in any way please sign up. This is another outreach project for our community and a very important one. If you have any questions ask Pastor Margaret or Judy Naviaux. For more information about Habitat for Humanity check their website at www.habitat.org ![]() |
